About Jacksonville, NC

Jacksonville, NC, is the the 14th largest city in North Carolina, and demographically, the youngest city in the United States. It became a town in 1842, in honor of President Andrew Jackson. However, it was not until 1849, that the quiet farming community of Jacksonville was truly established. The early development of Jacksonville is contributed to its economical success in agriculture, as products were shipped along the New River. Since then, the city has grown rapidly into the business, retail, medical, banking and cultural center for Onslow County. In 1992, Jacksonville was even named an All-American City by the National Civic League. When visiting Jacksonville, you should expect to experience a city that is both rich with history and alive with culture, and its hospitable residents are more than eager to share their heritage with all visitors!
